Dave Matthews Band tours with myriad awesome openers

image not available

On May 27, Dave Matthews Band will set out on a summer tour ambitious enough to rival Guns N' Roses. Well, maybe it won't be as extensive as the two-year Use Your Illusion tour, but it will span nearly the entire U.S., last a full six months and include a ridiculous batch of openers such as The Hold Steady, The Roots, Old Crow Medicine Show, Femi Kuti, The Avett Brothers, Jason Mraz, Switchfoot and more....  read more

Nine Great Songs About Roads

The Paste staff is slowly trickling back into the office after our holiday trips, and I think I can safely speak for everyone when I say that, if we're not completely happy to be home, then at least we're thrilled to be off the roads for a bit. Not that Atlanta traffic is much better, but hey, better the snarled, congested, crazy-making concrete devil you know, right? In tribute to coming home from the holidays, and in celebration of all the travels 2009 will bring, here are nine great songs about roads. Listen to them all on the last page,...  read more

Dave Matthews Band announces new LP, takes Avetts, others on the road

On April 14, 2009, RCA will release Dave Matthews Band's first studio album in four years, and the first since the death of founding saxophonist LeRoi Moore three months ago. Produced by Rob Cavallo (David Cook, Green Day, My Chemical Romance), the album's title hasn't yet been announced, but a tour sure has: The band will celebrate the album's release with a show at Madison Square Garden before hitting the road for a month, taking along some perhaps unexpected artists for opening support. ...  read more

Live Review: The Avett Brothers @ Georgia Theatre, 10/3/08

Before last week, I'd only seen the Avett Brothers live in festival settings-- all rife with dust, sweat and unsuspecting patrons about to have their notions of the banjo's hokey limitations fully obliterated-- so maybe a certain trend I noticed Friday night in Athens is a long-standing, midsize-venue-specific one that I just never had the opportunity to witness before. Or maybe, like the Grit and the Polish Sausage Man and the Dawgs, it's just unique to that great little town. Either way, hanging in and around the Georgia Theatre that evening was a notable number of young gentlemen dressed in...  read more

Monolith Festival 2008: Day 2

image not available

After its first day spotlighted depth, Day Two at Monolith was a chance for the big dogs of the line-up to roam free. Sure, there was some sterling Ben Foldsian pop from Washington D.C.’s Jukebox The Ghost to start the afternoon, a bit of smoky folk rock from former Paste Band of the Week The Rosewood Thieves, and a spirited fireball of a set from Tokyo Police Club. But the day belonged to a succession of four artists who dominated the Monolith main stage in four different ways......  read more
