The Dodos "Fables" Video (Awesome of the Day)
Echoing the cover imagery of their sophomore LP, Time To Die, confetti factors in the otherwise straightforward video for the album's first single, "Fables." Directed by Matt Amato, the video is like the band's music—simple and gorgeous. Its arrival also serves as a nice introduction to the band's third member Keaton Snyder as he adds a nice touch of vibes to Meric Long and Logan Kroeber's guitar/drum mix.... read more

The clitter-clattering experimental drums and freaky guitar strums mastered by San Fran's The Dodos could be best likened to a sonic back massage, both soothing and awakening in their rhythmic explorations. It seems that the band has turned to its own musical brand of therapy in the wake of an album leak. The band's third record, Time To Die, originally slated for September release, has found its way to the web in recent days. In lieu of any hissy-fittage, the guys have taken a proactive, multi-pronged approach to their dilemma. They've pushed forward the album's digital release to late July... read more

We've just released our collective Top 50 at Paste, and there's been the usual response both on our site and others' about what you think we missed, what we got wrong and what the list really should have looked like. Since this was a collaborative effort with votes from staff and some of our regular critics, everyone would have made this list a little differently, including me. Here's my personal top 10 (i.e. the actual 10 best albums this year).1. [Above: White Rabbits]MugisonHometown: Ísafjörður, Iceland Album: Mugiboogie Why He's Worth Watching: Mugison likely embodies the person Led Zeppelin envisioned when writing “Immigrant Song.” One moment, this man from the land of the ice and snow is sounding the hammer of the gods, alternating between an infernal howl (much like Robert Plant’s) and a guttural heavy-metal groan, the next, he’s crooning to twanging guitar over eerie strings. He’s a shape-shifter and a funnyman, and Mugiboogie builds on his four previous genre-transcending works.
