The Killers: Day & Age

To be fair, the success of Brandon Flowers and co. has always relied on their sounding—and looking—a little other. On their chart-topping 2004 debut, Hot Fuss, the Vegas-based band seized on past trends like New Wave and glitzy ’70s/’80s glam rock, applying their own twist, and plenty of eyeliner. It was a surprise coup, but they established themselves as the “the” band of the mid 2000s and seemed poised to take over the music scene.

The Killers are kicking the pre-release buzz for their forthcoming Day & Age album into high gear. 10 Best Songs in Commercials During The Olympics

Mavin_Gaye_Nike_Commerical.jpg

Since the advent of the DVR, sports are about the only thing I watch live on TV. So the Olympic Games have reintroduced me to the TV commercial, something I've managed to avoid outside of college football season and the occasional Braves game. And the quality of music has been a pleasant surprise (even a crappy beer like Bud Light—or Bud Light Lime—has the sense to use Santogold). Here are the best songs in commercials running during the Olympic Games:

Killers prep third LP, debut new songs in NYC

After blowing some Sawdust our way in late 2007 (a batch of b-sides and a duet with, um, Lou Reed) those shape-shifting Killers are gearing up for their third studio effort. Details on the much-anticipated follow-up to 2006's Sam's Town are sparse, but word from the label is the band's in full-blown recording mode with producer Jacques Lu Cont in the hopes of a November release, MTV News reports.

Killers Frontman A Killer?

In a strange case of life imitating art, NME reports that Killers frontman Brandon Flowers may have killed a man. Flowers told GQ magazine that he once accidentally ran over someone while driving, explaining that a drunk man walked in front of his car on a freeway. The singer, who described the incident as “pretty traumatic,” said authorities did not give him any information on the man’s condition afterwards. “They never told me what happened to him,” said Flowers, whose second album with the Killers, Sam’s Town, came out October 2nd. Looks like the members of Lightning Bolt better watch out…
