Magnetic Fields plan 2008 dates

Riding the coattails of the recent news about their upcoming album, Distortion, the Magnetics Fields just announced a 70th reason to pine: a brief 2008 tour. Pitchfork reports the smattering of dates that kick off in Massachussetts and end with a heap of flatland love in the Windy City. Each city will host two gigs. When you've got as many side projects as Stephin Merritt, does it really matter what you call yourself from album to album? For fans of 69 Love Songs, however, the name "The Magnetic Fields" carries with it a certain reverential weight. Merritt's romantic opus, released back in 1999, still possesses a legendary status for its depth, breadth and all-around quality.
