Film's always had its great directors, from Alfred Hitchcock to Quentin Tarantino, and its embarrassments, from Ed Wood to Uwe Boll. But rarely are the truly mediocre talents, the ones who fill out the rest of a studio's yearly output, celebrated for what they add to the field. For our day and age, there is perhaps no greater creator for mediocrity than Chris Columbus. The director of Home Alone 2 and Rent, Columbus has now announced the next project he plans on tapping with his magical wand of passable entertainment: Ripley's Believe It or Not.

Back in August, Billboard reported that on the 15th anniversary of the release of Tim Burton's beloved Nightmare Before Christmas, a bunch of beloved bands (and, um, Korn) were set to release an album inspired by the animated musical.

Just two weeks ago, we gave you word of major casting news for Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Now, the Hollywood Reporter has announced that Burton has a new addition to his cast and it's one of his brothers in weird, Crispin Glover.

Fresh off the heels of a critically acclaimed performance in Rachel Getting Married, Anne Hathaway has nabbed a role in Tim Burton's next film, alongside Burton mainstay Johnny Depp.

Hollywood golden boy Johnny Depp has essentially betrothed himself to Disney. Not only will he lace up his boots as Captain Jack Sparrow for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, he has officially signed on to be the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's version Alice in Wonderland as well as Tonto, a Native American who's one half of the crime fighting duo in an adaptation of The Lone Ranger.

Wonderland and Wonkaland may have some denizens in common (ahem, Johnny Depp), if Tim Burton has anything to say about it. And as director of a new 3-D version of Alice in Wonderland, he actually has a lot to say about it.

The trailer for Tim Burton's adaptation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is out, illustrating once again that Burton likes to direct pale people wearing black clothing. Witness:

The film tells the tale of a man seeking revenge for his wrongful imprisonment and the effects it had on his family. Sondheim's original opened in 1979 and won the Tony awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical. Johnny Depp reunites with Tim Burton in the starring role, with Alan Rickman portraying the judge who sent Depp to prison.

Sweeney Todd opens on December 21.
