During a stop on their “Bring Back the Dudes” tour, Titus Andronicus and The So So Glos joined forces onstage to end the night with a raucous, sweaty cover of Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.” In the intimate Siberia venue, the crowd went nuts when Brooklyn’s The So So Glos launched into an awesomely messy, energetic rendition of the track. Hilly Eye is the collaboration of guitarist and vocalist Amy Klein and drummer and vocalist Catherine Tung. The two have been working together since 2009, and began as an effort between Klein (formerly of Titus Andronicus) and Tung to create something noisey and primitive while maintaining elements of psychedelia. Hilly Eye’s forthcoming album Reasons to Live embodies exactly that, from the droning guitars to the aggressive vocals. It’s an effort that makes use of soft sounds as well as violent, loud ones. Earlier this week Titus Andronicus released their third studio album, Local Business, to critical acclaim (read our review). The band now brings us the video for the first single, “In a Big City.” Directed by Isaac Ravishankara, the video shows Titus frontman Patrick Stickles walking through his hometown of New Jersey while singing, “I grew up one side of the river; I was a disturbed, dangerous drifter / Moved over to the other side of the river; Now I’m a drop in a deluge of hipsters.” Check out the video below and the band’s upcoming tour dates here. ... read more
