Tom Morello Readies Debut LP As The Nightwatchman

|

He’s been a slave to audio and he’s raged against the machine, but now Tom Morello is finally breaking out on his own—- not in name, exactly, but at least in musical spirit.

On April 24th, 2007, Epic Records will release One Man Revolution, which Morello recorded as The Nightwatchman. This, his debut solo effort, marks the first time that Morello has sung and played acoustic guitar on a record.

Morello, who has served as main axeman for both Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine, also considers himself a political/social activist, and Revolution promises to be an exploration of both his musical and civic interests, with songs touching on issues from America’s involvement in the Iraq War to the struggles of underground political movements in the US to the ethnicity of Jesus Christ.

Audioslave was recently in the news after frontman Chris Cornell announced that he was leaving the group, although the remaining members have not yet disbanded. Rage Against the Machine’s much-hyped, one-off reunion planned for Coachella 2007 (April 27-29) may have contributed to tickets to the festival selling out after being on sale for less than one month.
