Tom Petty slotted for Super Bowl halftime show

Classic rocker Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers will perform the coveted halftime slot at the Super Bowl in Arizona on Feb. 3. Earlier this year, nearly 140 million Americans tuned in to see Prince play the 2007 slot. Other recent acts have included the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2. Tom Petty Tours With Strokes, Frank Black, John Mayer

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers have announced the third leg of their U.S. summer tour, which originally kicked off June 9 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the band’s debut album. Beginning Sept. 14 in Chicago, the third leg will include a headlining performance at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival as well as a stop in the band’s hometown of Gainesville, Fla.
