If given the choice to live one day as a lion or a thousand years as a lamb, there would be a few things to take into consideration. Would this lion be in a zoo or stalking prey in the Serengeti? Would the lamb be fluffy or...? Wait, who are we kidding? We'd totally go with the lion.
As much as Zach de la Rocha aims to affect the nation's political consciousness, the most important thing he's said amidst a Rage Against the Machine reunion - which began at Coachella and will continue (at least) until the band plays Vegoose in late October - was not an onstage statement about how the Bush administration should be "hung, and tried, and shot" (in that order?). No, de la Rocha trumped that announcement yesterday when he told Billboard that he has finished his long-in-the-works solo album.
Working with former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore in Jack Johnson's Los Angeles studio, de la Rocha played keyboards on the untitled project, which has existed as rumor since Rage broke up seven years ago. "Sources" describe it as Led Zeppelin meets Dr. Dre.
There's no word on whether any of de la Rocha's collaborations with DJ Shadow, Trent Reznor or ?uestlove will show up on the record, which thus far lacks a distributor and therefore, any sense of an ETA.
