Joe Bennett, co-creator of Scavengers Reign, released a sneak peak for Season 2 via Instagram, following the show’s cancellation in May. In May, the animated science fiction drama was made available to stream on Netflix.
Bennett released a statement alongside the teaser, sharing, “As of right now, Scavengers Reign is not being renewed for a second season. I wanted to let everyone know directly because I really love our fanbase, they’ve been such champions for the show, and I don’t want to leave everyone hanging.” As Bennett shares in the post, Scavengers Reign originated as a short film released in 2016, and was ordered to series in 2022.
Since the cancellation, Scavengers Reign won an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for background design. The series was also nominated for Outstanding Animated Program, beating out stalwarts such as Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.
Bennett created Scavengers Reign alongside his collaborator Charles Huettner. The duo executive produce the series with Ben Kalina (Big Mouth), Chris Prynoski (Her), and Shannon Prynoski (Star Trek: Lower Decks).
Before saying goodbye to the series forever, Bennett shared an earnest update to fans about the state of the series. “But this is not the end. There is more story to be told, we are ready to make another season,” pledged Bennett.
