Power to the Peaceful Festival begins tomorrow

The ninth annual 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival begins early tomorrow morning at the Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadow in San Francisco, interspersing its free music from Michael Franti and Spearhead, Indigo Girls and others with $45 yoga classes.

Hosted by Hard Knock Radio, the event features guest speakers Amy Goodman (Democracy Now! Founder) and Mario Africa (MOVE). What originally began in 1998 as a support rally for Mumia Abu-Jamal, 911 Power to the Peaceful broadened its message after September 11, 2001 to one of general social justice.

Headliners Franti and Spearhead performed a private concert for injured soldiers at Washington State’s Walter Reed Army Medical center earlier this year, later helping to raise money for Iraq Veterans Against the War. Anti- will release the group’s next album sometime in 2008.
