Kaki King and Mountain Goats join forces for EP

Kaki King
Text

After communicating his admiration for her on a barroom wall, John Darnielle finally got to make it with one of his favorite gals. The woman in question? Guitaruoso Kaki King (a Paste favorite, too, incidentally).

And despite any immature insinuations (for shame!), the "it" that was made is simply beautiful music. Specifically, a six-song EP entitled Black Pear Tree that will be for sale at the merch table on the upcoming Kaki King/Mountain Goats tour, tongue-in-cheekily dubbed "The Last Happy Night of Your Life."

Over at his blog, Last Plane to Jakarta, Darnielle has expressed heartyappreciation of King's skill with a fretboard. She finally succumbed to the allure of the lead Capricorn this spring, after he scrawled a message for her on the wall of the Portland club Doug Fir.

The quaintness of this collaboration's origin is rivaled only by that of the parties themselves. For proof, head over to the Forkcast and take a listen to the Toad ode "Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle," or grin the evening away when they conquer a town near you this fall:
