In the last year, Joseph Arthur has opened his own art gallery (The Museum of Modern Arthur), his paintings have toured the states, he's put out four EPs, and just a month ago, he released a second LP, Temporary People, with his band The Lonely Astronauts.
The band launched a tour in support of the new full-length on Friday (remaining dates below), with performances through the beginning of November. While Arthur is touring the states, a collection of his artwork, entitled "Wig," receives its premiere exhibition in Montreal. The exhibit opened at Galerie Pangée Oct. 23, and runs through Nov. 16. The gallery describes the pieces in "Wig" as "anthems that unite the rhythm of the forms."
In addition to his visual and musical artistic endeavors, Arthur writes poetry. The exhibit's mascot poem "Wig" (available in its entirety here) poses a metaphor poking at the problems of mortality, art-making and commercialism. "How do you do that? / People always ask when they see my work / The only answer I give them / Is / Doesn't that very question make it a thing of raging greatness?"
