Last we heard from Matthew Houck, Phosphorescent's 2007 album Pride was making grown men weep into their whiskey neats from Athens, Ga. to New York City—a move Houck had just made himself.
Now the gothic-folk maestro is taking off again, creaky voice and many-membered accompaniment included. But this time he's going from North back to South, spending most of November touring below the Mason-Dixon. Then after returning to Brooklyn for a cap-off show at The Bell House, the band will reemerge in "very early 2009" (says Houck's publicist) with "new material." Check back for more information about what that means, exactly, as we get it.
