Mastodon announces Crack The Skye North American tour

They've strode with behemoths, braved the stormy seas and climbed Blood Mountain in search of the crystal skull. Now, they're ready to leap off that precipice and Crack The Skye, and when they reach the other side of the wormhole and come back to planet Earth, they'll be bringing their special brand of madness to a city near you as part of a North American tour.

In what may be the only connection between the two bands ever witnessed (besides beards and the fact that they share a label) Mastodon will be taking a page from Built to Spill's book and perform Crack The Skye in its entirety at each show on this tour. (Actually, the more we think about it, a Mastodon/Built to Spill collaboration sounds kinda awesome. Maybe a split 7"? Get on it, Warner Brothers!)

Pre-sale tickets went on sale yesterday (March 3) at the Mastodon and Crack The Skye websites,  and general ticket sales begin March 7. The ticket pre-sale password is "CracktheSkye". Psych-sludge impresarios Kylesa (whose hotly-anticipated Static Tensions LP is coming out March 17) and prog-metalheads Intronaut will be joining up with Mastodon for the trek, which is geared towards smaller venues to provide fans with the up-close experience:
