We really dig Janelle Monáe, if you can't tell. She was one of the artists to grace our "Best of What's Next" cover last year and seems too good to be human sometimes.
So when the lineup for the 5th annual Afro-Punk Festival was announced and we saw that not only was Ms. Monáe performing, but Saul Williams too (amongst many others), naturally we got excited. Not to mention the festival is free!
The film, music, art and skateboarding festival will take place July 4-July 13 in the heart of Brooklyn, N.Y. Last year, 30,000 people gathered for the festival, but organizers expect an even bigger turnout this year. This year's lineup includes with 40 bands, 15 films, a visual art exhibit, 30 pro BMX riders and 15 pro skaters showing up at the skate park.
