For a while now, Beck's been taking a step back from making albums. His own albums, that is.
Since releasing the understated Modern Guilt in 2008, he's kept busy with several different projects of other people's tunes. With his Record Club, Beck covered Velvet Underground's classic album with Nico, and Planned Obsolescence is a series of extended mixtapes.
But this January, we'll see a new sort of non-Beck album—this one actually written by Beck. Charlotte Gainsbourg's IRM, her first record since 2006, was written, produced and mixed by Mr. Hansen himself. Gainsbourg said in a statement that the tunes range from "very melodic African beats" to "classical pop songs."
