Hem can be quite resourceful. Consider 2006's No Word from Tom, which compiled live performances, outtakes and even a cover of R.E.M.'s "So. Central Rain" into one cohesive release. But for its latest work, the soundtrack of a Shakespeare production, the Brooklyn folk collective had to work with actors instead.
The Twelfth Night soundtrack accompanies the Public Theater
rendition that featured Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald, Raúl Esparza,
David Pittu and Jon Patrick Walker. Half of its songs had never seen
the stage, including a duet featuring Hathaway and McDonald titled,
"Full Fathom Five."
"Those two voices together was too tempting to pass up," said Hem's Dan Messe in a statement, who wrote the track.
The soundtrack, out Oct. 27, is now streaming online.
