While few musicians would downplay the importance of the independent record store, even fewer hold it in such reverence as Dave Rawlings. The singer-songwriter/producer/collaborator, who just released his new album of superb Americana gems, A Friend of A Friend will visit several indie shops on a November/December tour.
When Rawlings’ distributor DNA closed up shop just as his album with Gillian Welch, Time (The Revelator), was picking up steam, many indie record stores ordered copies directly from Rawlings. Take that, corporate machine!
Years later, Rawlings is ready to repay the favor. For the next three weeks, he’ll perform at independent record stores in between club dates.
