With a nine-song LP bearing the title Go, Sigur Rós vocalist Jónsi Birgisson is set to launch his solo career next spring.
Fluttering flutes and twinkling chimes match the ethereal tones of voice in Birgisson’s first single “Boy Lilikoi,” further suggesting that this could be his most orchestral effort yet, of Sigur Rós and otherwise. But really, such arrangements should come as no surprise. With the help of composer Nico Muhly (Björk, Rufus Wainwright), producer Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and Riceboy Sleeps partner Alex Somers, Go blossomed from a backlog of songs Birgisson kept while writing for Sigur Rós, to a largely English-language record featuring “a lot of ‘out there’ string arrangements,” woodwinds, brass and double bass, according to Kattis.
