Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Gershwin biopic just got its leading man. Zachary Quinto—best known for his turns as the stone-faced, pointy-eared Spock in Star Trek and as superhero killer Sylar on Heroes—will fill the shoes of composer/pianist George Gershwin.
The Gershwin role should be decidedly more animated than Captain Spock—whereas the Captain was a stoic Vulcan, Gershwin and his brother Ira worked on over 12 Broadway plays before his untimely death at age 38. Quinto will reportedly work with dialogue and accent coaches to get Gershwin’s turn-of-the-century Brooklyn parlance just right.
Production on the film is expected to begin this spring.
