Legendary Distributor New Yorker Films Back in Business March 8

In a somewhat bizarre spot of good news amid tight business for independent distributors, New Yorker Films announced last week that it will return to business on March 8 under a new owner.

The company’s former vice president, Jose Lopez, will take over as president along with his former staff of nine, according to indieWIRE, which has many more details on the distributor’s return.

New Yorker had abruptly closed just under a year ago, a particularly depressing development given its storied history. It plans to release four to six films given in its first year back, though its solemn goodbye message remains plastered across its homepage.
