AMC Officially Picks Up Six Episodes of The Walking Dead

AMC has had its eye on a zombie series for a while now, and we’ve been eagerly following the updates. Monday, the network that’s brought us obsessions called Mad Men and Breaking Bad has officially added an adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s popular Walking Dead graphic novels to their prime time line-up, becoming AMC’s fourth original series.

The six-episode kick-off season will start filming in Atlanta this June (with Frank Darabont at the helm, no less) to be ready for AMC’s annual fall Fearfest horror lineup. The new show—called, simply, Dead—will be transformed from illustrations to a live-action version for the small screen.

Joel Stillerman, AMC’s senior vice president for programming, told The Hollywood Reporter that author/illustrator Kirkman’s storylines “brilliantly captur[e] the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse. And it lets us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time.”
