The members of Wolf Parade have been too busy with varioussideprojects to release a new album together since 2008’s At Mount Zoomer. We heard inklings about a new album late last year, but it wasn’t until a recent interview with Exclaim that singer/guitarist/songwriter Dan Boeckner revealed more concrete details of the band’s upcoming LP.

Boeckner said that after recording nearly non-stop for two weeks, Wolf Parade has 15 tracks that will comprise its third album. With more than 80 minutes of music on its hands, the band is still deciding the right format for their upcoming release. ”[W]e don’t really know now whether we’re going to put out an LP or a double album,” Boeckner said. “If we did an LP maybe we’d do an LP and an EP, because we want to put all of the songs out. There were no songs that we recorded where everyone was like, ‘Oh, that’s a dud.’”

The still-unnamed album will see Boeckner and bandmate Dante DeCaro sharing key duties, as Wolf Parade’s former keyboardist, Hadji Bakara, quit the band to work on a PhD. That didn’t stop the band from recording “a few songs that are really, really intensely keyboard-heavy, but not like Depeche Mode,” Boeckner says. He also described the LP as having “a lot of guitar solos — proper solos.” And finally: “Some of the stuff is really, really heavy ‘80s coke rock.” Miami Vice, much?

A tentative release date of June 29 has been set for the new album, which will once again be released on Sub Pop. The band is currently preparing for a spring tour of Canada and Europe:
