If it didn’t seem strange enough that Paste’s favorite living director Martin Scorsese was slated to direct a children’s movie, now the man behind such decidedly un-kid friendly films as The Departed and Taxi Driver has opted to shoot his The Invention of Hugo Cabret in 3D.

Audiences eager to see what the auteur will do with the 3D medium will need to practice patience, though. The Playlist reports that Scorsese’s foray into kid’s fare, which will star Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Kingsley and Chloe Moretz, won’t be released until December 2011. Shooting will begin this June.
