We were a little skeptical when we heard about the upcoming Smurfs: The Movie, even with the news that Neil Patrick Harris would star as one of the film’s live-action characters. But things continue to look up for the ‘80s cartoon adaptation with the addition of Modern Family’s fast-talking Columbian beauty Sofia Vergara to the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vergara will play Odile, a high-powered businesswoman married to NPH’s character.
Other additions to the Smurfs cast include Hank Azaria, who will voice the movie’s villain, Gargamel, and Katy Perry as the voice of Smurfette. The movie—directed by Raja Gosnell—is slated to begin filming soon in New York.
Vergara will lend her talents to another upcoming film; the actress will voice a character in Happy Feet 2 in 3D alongside big names such as Robin Williams, Brad Pitt and Elijah Wood.
