PJ Harvey has a new album in the works, and this time around she’s trying something different. According to Spinner, the singer-songwriter has picked up the autoharp to write nearly half the songs on her forthcoming disc.
UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown got a first look at Harvey’s new music when the singer performed “Let England Shake” on the BBC’s The Andrew Marr Show.
During her interview with Marr, Harvey said, “I’ve always felt that my biggest fear would be to just replicate something I’ve done before because I know I can do it and it feels safe.” Working with the autoharp removed the musician from her comfort zone. “I almost purposefully force myself into a different set of rules that I apply before I make the next record.”
