The Decemberists are upholding their reputation for fostering great collaborations as they work on their next album. For last year’s Hazards of Love, the band recruited the voices of Lavender Diamond’s Becky Stark and My Brightest Diamond’s Shara Worden and featured contributions from Jim James and Robyn Hitchcock. And now, according to a recent tweet from frontman Colin Meloy, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck may be joining the ranks: “First official day of #6 practice; made Peter Buck play my fake-REM riffs and he didn’t seem perturbed. Nor litigious.”
The Portland, Ore. band is currently writing and rehearsing for their next album—their sixth—but have yet to begin recording, according to their publicist, who told us that Buck “will be involved but not on the whole album.”
While you wait for further news, there are still tickets available for The Decemberists’ April 30th benefit show for their pal, artist Jessica Schleif, the band’s only scheduled date this year. Meanwhile, tomorrow will see the release of Feast of the Hunter’s Moon, the first album from Black Prairie, the experimental bluegrass quintet featuring Decemberists Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and Chris Funk.
