Rounder Records, the 40-year-old independent label that’s home to Willie Nelson, Kaki King, Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, Béla Fleck and even Steve Martin, was just acquired by Concord Music Group. Concord claims Tift Merritt and Elvis Costello among its recording artists.
According to a statement on Rounder’s website, the company will maintain its Boston office, and the owners and management will stay on. “We felt this was better than simply trying to soldier on alone,’’ Rounder co-founder Leighhton Levy told the Boston Globe. “It’s not an exit strategy. Concord acquired Rounder wanting it to continue what it is doing, and keeping the team in place for the most part.’’
