Any good gunslingin’, blood-splatterin’, Old West-evoking sandbox game should have a weathered, gritty soundtrack to go with it.
Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption, released May 18, is the latest to join the trend of sandbox/first-person shooter video games which feature established musical artists on their soundtracks (Django Reinhardt for BioShock 2!?). The Red Dead Redemption soundtrack features appearances from Jamie Lidell, William Elliott Whitmore and everyone’s favorite brooding, Swedish folkie, José González.
González, who hasn’t released an album since 2007’s In Our Nature, brings his spare, haunting acoustic style to “Far Away,” his contribution to the soundtrack.
