Perhaps at the exact second you read these words, Swedish singer-songwriter Jens Lekman is working on new material for a follow-up to his last album, 2007’s Night Falls On Kortedala. To tide everyone over until this album’s TBA release date, he has revealed a new song, “The End of the World Is Bigger Than Love,” which is available for free.
Part of the reason why there has been such a long period of silence from Lekman is that he didn’t write music for the majority of 2008. “Some things you just go through,” he writes in a blog post for label Secretly Canadian. “You don’t write about it, you don’t turn it into art because it can’t be turned into art. I didn’t write any songs that year because you can’t pour manure into an espresso machine and expect a cappucino to come out.”
Lekman continues the post by writing about the story behind “The End of the World Is Bigger Than Love”: “It’s a song of hope. When love turns it’s back on you it’s nice to know there’s a world out there that doesn’t give a shit about your problems.”
