Who would have thought that the stoner kid from Freaks and Geeks—or, for that matter, the stoner kid from Pineapple Express—would grow up to adapt a William Faulkner work for the screen?

On the other hand, it sort of comes as no surprise given Franco’s apparent push to become a jack-of-all-trades recently. Not only has he been tapped to co-host the Academy Awards this year, but if we had anything to say about it, he would get nominated for his performance in Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours as well. (Let’s not forget he also plans to release an album this year.)

Now, it seems Franco plans to expand even more in an attempt to produce adaptations of William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying (from a screenplay he also penned) and the more contemporary classic Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, according to Showbiz411.

Apart from adapting the works of famous literary figures, portraying another on screen and writing his own short stories, Franco will also star in an upcoming Planet of the Apes prequel as well as the previously reported Your Highness, another stoner buddy-comedy but set in medieval times. (Not to mention the fact that he is also currently attending graduate school classes at Yale and the Rhode Island School of Design.)

Is there anything dude can’t do?
