Superman will take flight once again in an upcoming reboot, this time with Henry Cavill donning the red cape. Warner Brothers announced Sunday that The Tudors star will take on the role of the DC Comics superhero as well as Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent in the reboot of the franchise.
Cavill came close to portraying The Man of Steel once before in the version of a Superman film that was scrapped in favor of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. He was also in the running for the role of fellow DC hero Batman in Christopher Nolan’s re-imagining of the franchise.
Although Cavill has little experience with comic-book films, the project is being helmed by seasoned veterans Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) as director and Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) as producer.
The projected release date for the film is December 2012.
