The Decemberists, Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris will headline this year’s Newport Folk Festival.
The two-day festival takes place in Newport, R.I. at Fort Adams State Park on July 30-31. There is the possibility of a Friday night event on July 29 as well. The idea is currently under consideration, and more artists are set to be announced at a later date.
The festival kicks-off with The Decemberists, Gillian Welch, Gogol Bordello, Earl Scruggs, Ramblin Jack Elliott, Mavis Staples, The Felice Brothers, Delta Spirit and an acoustic performance by Tegan and Sara. Other artists include Freelance Whales,
Devil Makes Three, Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three, Typhoon, River City Extension, The Wailin’ Jennys, The Ebony Hillbillies, What Cheer? Brigade, The PS22 Chorus and Song Circle with Dar Williams, Ellis Paul, John Gorka and Liz Queler.
Costello is set to play an acoustic set on the second day of the and will be joined by Emmylou Harris, Amos Lee, M.Ward, Wanda Jackson, Middle Brother, Justin Townes Earle and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Also appearing are The Civil Wars, Trampled By Turtles, The Cave Singers, The Head & The Heart, Secret Sisters, David Wax Museum, Mountain Man, Brown Bird and The Seeger Clogging All-Stars.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (March 31) at 10 a.m. via phone, mail or Internet sale. Single day passes can be purchased in person at the Newport Visitor Information Center. For more information visit the Newport Folk Festival website.
