Singer-songwriter Gillian Welch just announced the release of her fifth studio album, The Harrow & The Harvest. The 10-track collection will be released on June 28. It features more of Welch’s signature soulful country and was recorded at Nashville’s Woodland Sound Studio.
Her back-to-roots country album has already received praise from Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, who says the album is “a new Southern sound with the sort of songs you wouldn’t be surprised to here issuing from some verdant, widowed hollow in Appalachia.” Meloy and Welch have experience working together; The Decemberists featured Welch on their most recent release The King is Dead.
Welch will begin an extensive North American tour in support of The Harrow & The Harvest on May 30. She’ll be traveling with her musical partner, guitarist and producer David Rawlings. The two met at Berklee College in Boston and have worked together for nearly two decades.
