If you missed this year’s SXSW music and arts festival, no worries: You can still catch the Northeast’s equivalent, NXNE taking place June 13-15 in Toronto, Canada.
The festival, which includes an impressive line-up of musicians as well as independent films, has added Lou Reed and partner Ralph Gibson’s new documentary, Red Shirley, to its list of participants. The film, which Reed both directs and scores, features The Velvet Underground frontman interviewing his cousin, Shirley Novick, on the eve of her 100th birthday. The film is an emotional look at Novick’s life, including her survival of two world wars and nearly five decades’ worth of work as a dressmaker.
