The Coen brothers
recently stopped by the grand opening of the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center and talked with director Noah Baumbach about past, present and future films.
During a Q&A session the brothers told a fan they had a change of heart about the idea of doing a musical. Years ago, they said that they’d never do a musical because having actors lip-sync over prerecorded songs would become too cumbersome.
In fact, the Oscar winners took the opportunity to announce a new music-oriented film they are working on.
Joel said, “I actually don’t remember saying that or why we may have said it. There are certain cumbersome aspects of production that you get used to. We used quite a bit of playback on O Brother.”
“We’re working on a movie now that has music in it but it’s pretty much all performed live, single instrument so it’s hard to tell,” he said.
