Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has been up to more than chowing down on burritos. The Atlanta shredder has assembled an all-star lineup of musicians for a new project, which is tentatively titled “Giraffe Tongue,” because Hinds says “they look sick.”
According to Noisecreep, the band includes Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen, and former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery. Hinds hopes that the group can record an album’s worth of material as soon each prospective member’s busy schedule allows.
In addition to forming supergroups and filming burrito commercials, Hinds is also hard at work with Mastodon recording the follow-up to 2009’s Crack the Skye. The new record is expected to hit stores later this year.
