Emma Stone has been picked up to join the cast of The Gangster Squad, which includes Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin, Variety reports.
This will be the second film the actress appears alongside Gosling, after the comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love.
The Gangster Squad, which takes place in Los Angeles in the 1940s and ‘50s, follows the LAPD as they try to keep East Coast mobsters out of the city. Will Beall (Castle) is adapting the project from the L.A. Times’ seven-part series “Tales From the Gangster Squad,” with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) directing.
Stone would play the femme fatale Jean, who gets caught in a love triangle with Gosling’s Sgt. Jerry Wooters and Penn’s mobster Mickey Cohen.
The Gangster Squad has a release date set for sometime in 2013.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. which stars Stone, Gosling, Steve Carell and Julianne Moore, opens in theaters this Friday.
