It is hard to believe, but a feature film based solely on the life of Elvis Presley has never been made. But on the 35th anniversary of The King’s death, that will be changing.
John Scheinfeld, the director who followed musicians in documentaries like The U.S. vs. John Lennon and Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everbody Talkin’ About Him?), will be adapting the book Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business into a new narrative film.
The book, which was written by Presley’s bodyguard of 16 years, Sonny West, will be turned into Fame & Fortune, which is being described as a The King’s Speech-esque telling of the relationship between the two.
While the film does not have the rights to any of Elvis’ music, producers are hoping to gain the rights further down the road.
