What would happen if you combined the dysfunctional Bluth family from Arrested Development and the work experience from The West Wing? Well, it might be something like the planned 1600 Penn; a sitcom NBC has picked up a pilot commitment deal with, Deadline reports.
Book of Mormon star Josh Gad and Modern Family director Jason Winer created the series together after comedies rarely entered 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. They brought the idea to 20th Century Fox Television, who linked them up with Jon Lovett, a former speechwriter to President Barack Obama who happened to have been hired by the production company a few weeks earlier.
All three will executive produce the half-hour comedy with Winer acting as lead director and Lovett and Gad as head writers.
