The Philistines Jr. to Release Compilation Featuring Covers, Remixes of Their Songs

Connecticut-based indie-rock band The Philistines Jr. may not appear to be a big name in the music scene, but they have more clout than most realize: Drummer Adam Pearce helms the group Mice Parade, while bandleader Peter Katis has produced for big-name acts like The National, Frightened Rabbit and Jónsi.

To demonstrate the pull they have in the scene, the trio’s new project, If a Lot of Bands Play in the Woods…., enlists the help of nearly 20 different acts, including the aforementioned artists plus other well-known bands with whom Katis has worked in the past (Mercury Rev, Mates of State, Tokyo Police Club, etc.). Each artist was tasked with covering or remixing a Philistines Jr. song from their 2010 album, If a Band Plays in the Woods…?, which the group released after a nine-year hiatus.

To coincide with the compilation’s release, The Philistines Jr. will play a New York City show at Arlene’s Grocery on Oct. 29—their first show in the city since opening for The National in 2007.
