Johnny Depp and Keith Richards first united in the Pirates of the Caribbean series as pirate father and son, and now they’ve reconvened in Richards’ natural habitat: the live stage.
The performance happened on the spur of the moment, taking place at an after-party for Depp’s new film, the big-screen adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s novel The Rum Diary, at the Maritime Hotel in New York City.
Richards and Depp united to play one song: “Key to the Highway,” a blues standard by Charlie Segar re-recorded by The Rolling Stones in 1964. Richards provided most of the vocals, while he and Depp both assumed guitar duties. Supported by a horn and rhythm section, the song was extended to allow plenty of jamming.
The pair embraced one another before disappearing arm-in-arm into the VIP crowd shortly after their one-song performance ended.
