Paul McCartney to Release New Album of Covers

Paul McCartney  has announced he will release a new album on Feb. 7, 2012. The album will be released on Hear Music/ Concord Records and feature covers of standards that McCartney said inspired his own music. The record will also feature two new songs from McCartney.

The album was produced by Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and features guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder. It was recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, New York and London in 2011.

“When I kind of got into songwriting, I realized how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them,” McCartney said about the album. “I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys—I just thought the songs were magical.  And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it’s beautiful, the way they made those songs.’”

You can take a listen “My Valentine,” a track from the upcoming, still unnamed album, at McCartney’s website, but it’s only available today.
