For six lucky Dinosaur Jr. fans, June 25, 2011 was probably one of the best days of their lives. On that fateful day, those die-hard fans got to meet and interview the recently reunited trio and film the band’s show at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club.
J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Emmett “Murph” Murphy played the entirety of their 1988 album Bug at that gig, and the band’s performance will be released on DVD and Blue-ray on Feb. 21 via MVD Entertainment.
In a production that has been dubbed, “part concert film and part reality TV show,” BUG Live at 9:30 Club: In the Hands of the Fans not only features those six individuals who won the online contest to meet and film Dinosaur Jr., but also highlights the band’s epic performance. Directed by Dave Markey (The Year Punk Broke), BUG Live at 9:30 Club: In the Hands of the Fans explores the notions of fandom and musical performance and documents the point at which they intersect.
The In the Hands of the Fans series started in 2010 with Iggy and the Stooges. Watch the trailer for BUG Live at 9:30 Club: In the Hands of the Fans below.
