The Academy Announces Oscar Contenders for Visual Effects

A few weeks ago, we reported on the shortlist for the Visual Effects Oscar.

We have a new update, as the Academy announced the final 10 contenders for the award today. Below is a list of the aesthetically pleasing films vying for the title.

_Captain America: The First Avenger
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Real Steel
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The Tree of Life
X-Men: First Class_

Ones that didn’t make the cut: Cowboys & Aliens, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Sucker Punch, Super 8, and Thor.

We are glad to see some of our favorites made the list, in particular our 2011 movie of the year The Tree Of Life. It’s nice to see the film continue to receive the attention it deserves. The 84th Academy Awards airs live Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. EST.
