St. Vincent’s Annie Clark paid dues to Elvis Costello last night in an appearance on Conan O’ Brien’s late night show. The songwriter launched into Costello’s “Radio Radio” before echoing the very words that got Costello kicked off SNL for playing the song in the ‘70s—“I’m sorry ladies and gentleman, there’s no reason to play that song.”

The bit went over well with the chuckling crowd that seemed to get it before Clark and her band launched into “Cheerleader,” a cut from last year’s Strange Mercy. You can watch Clark channel Costello below, and read about the Costello performance she was parodying here.
