Hanni El Khatib can now cross off “Meet Dan Auerbach in Paris to talk about obscure L.A. bands” from his to-do list. But now Auerbach, The Black Keys’ frontman, is also set to produce Khatib’s forthcoming album.
While the two are familiar with each other (Khatib designed the logo for Auerbach’s studio) Khatib told LA Weekly “A friend owns a bar in Paris and introduced us when I was deejaying after a show. He went deep into music and started dropping knowledge about all these obscure LA bands. We ended up going back and forth deejaying all night.”
We recently reported Auerbach’s collaboration with Michael Kiwanuka for latest track “Lasan” which appears as the B-side to Kwianuka’s new single “I’m Getting Ready.”
NME reports, Auerbach said of the track, “It was great, really quick. We went and did it really quick at Ray Davies’ studio. It was nice. Obviously his voice is amazing the songs are cool. The production on that stuff is great too – I like what the guy is doing.”
The Black Keys
are currently on a North American tour with Arctic Monkeys and are headlining a number of U.S. and U.K. music festival this summer, including this months Coachella.
