Today’s news of the sudden passing of Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch—who was also known as MCA and Nathanial Hörnblowér —had a great impact on the music community. Although it was known that Yauch was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, not much information was shared about his condition, but it is expected that Yauch died from complications of cancer.
It wasn’t long after the announcement of Yauch’s death that nearly all trending topics on Twitter were somehow related to the rapper, whether they were Beastie Boys’ song titles (yes, “Brass Monkey” was trending) or the hashtag #RIPMCA.
After all, Yauch wasn’t just a musician. Aside from his influential work with the Beasties, Yauch was involved with the movement to free Tibet and also helped found Tibetan Freedom Concerts in the 1990s. And under the Hörnblowér name, Yauch directed several of the band’s music videos, including last year’s Fight For Your Right Revisited.
An overwhelming amount of artists took to social media to share their memories of Yauch, with responses coming from artists that included ?uestlove of the Roots and Weezer. Below we’ve shared images of 100 artists remembering Yauch.
