Update: Nadler’s album is now out for release, and the album stream has since been removed. You can check it out on Rdio on June 5.
Marissa Nadler’s The Sister is set to be released on May 29, but a special early preview of the album is available today. The album acts as a companion piece to her self-titled release from last year, but its inspiration comes from a broader, less-heartbroken place:
“Heartbreak is a great muse, but it can wear you down,” she said in a press release. “For The Sister, I realized I had muses all around me, whether it was childhood, betrayal, friendships, new love, nature, or hope. The narrator’s stronger in my songs now, and more able to bounce back if they choose to.”
The album was produced and recorded by Brian McTear at Miner Street Studios in Philadelphia and was inspired by storytelling songwriters like Elliott Smith and Joni Mitchell.
